Mel Doiron

Mel is currently pursuing a bachelor of fine arts with a major in ceramics at NSCAD University. Her studio practice is centered around creating functional pottery out of earthenware clay using a variety of hand-building techniques. Mel's work is derived from her experiences working as a studio assistant at Nova Terra Cotta Pottery in Lunenburg, NS, working as the ceramics intern at the Women's Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY, and backpacking Europe to see various decorative arts museums and the Meissen porcelain factory.

09. Handbuilding Basics

Students will learn the basics of constructing with clay using a combination of slab-building and hand-forming techniques. The class will focus on creating pottery that functions with an introduction to sculptural building methods. Students will leave with a collection of handcrafted pottery that is a joy to look at and use.
