Athanasia Vayianou BFA

Athanasia Vayianou, was born in Limassol, Cyprus. The island’s politically charged history had an impact on everyone growing up there, her response was to develop an awareness and appreciation for family, history, and nature. Having access to art classes and creative studies all throughout her secondary schooling, it became a way of expressing herself. Moving to Canada and enrolling at NSCAD University, Vayianous discovered her love of Art and History and a passion for Metalsmithing. She graduated in 2017 with a BFA majoring in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing and is currently a resident in the airCRAFT residency at the Centre for Craft.

Current / Upcoming Courses

25. Intro to Enameling

Learn the basics of 5enameling with 4 basic firings; overfire, mature, orange peel and sugar fire. Students will then use stencils, pencils and cloisonné wire to create works of art while also learning how to manipulate glass in a way suited for their designs. Students are encouraged to come with ideas of projects to make. This course is designed to give you a deeper understanding of how enamel works along with the tools to work on your own.

26. Mother’s Day Pendant

Create a Mother’s Day pendant in this workshop.  Celebrate by hand-making a piece for your mother, or take this workshop with your mother, spending quality time together. This workshop will make use of stencils and stamping on glass. You get to choose the color you want, fire it in a kiln and decorate the piece with stencils of your choice. If you wish, you can handmake some stencils beforehand, for an extra personalized touch. Class breaks for one-hour at lunch.

27. Draw of Enamel

Using a simple pencil or ink, create drawings that you can fuse on an enameled surface. Create earrings or pendants in this 2-day workshop. You will work with copper, fusing powdered glass onto it and then create designs with a soft leaded pencil or special ink. Some jewellery experience required.
