Courses and Workshops at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design
Located in the Pier 21/Seawall Development area of Halifax, the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design has five well-equipped studios in pottery, jewellery and metal, woodworking, textiles, and multi-purpose where courses are offered to the public in fall, winter and spring semesters.

Open Studio Rentals
Open Studio Rentals are an opportunity for people who have experience and are capable of working independently. For first time users, references of technical ability and training for metal and pottery must be submitted prior to rental period. There will be a technician available for questions.
Ceramics
Beginning Saturday, January 23rd, 2010, our Ceramics studio is available for rent on a first-come first-served basis on
Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm
cost for students enrolled in a class at NSCCD
$22.13 + $2.87 (HST) = $25
not registered in a class -
$26.55 + $3.45 (HST) = $30
Metal
Beginning Saturday, January 30, 2010, our Metal studio is available for rent on a first-come first-served basis on
Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm
cost for students enrolled in a class at NSCCD
$22.13 + $2.87 (HST) = $25
not registered in a class -
$26.55 + $3.45 (HST) = $30
We reserve the right to restrict access to the studios if the staff assess a safety or security risk

Summer Professional Development Residency
July and August
Each spring, The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design accepts applications for the Summer Professional Development Residencies in the Ceramics, Metal and Weaving/Textile Studios.
who should apply
-
advanced students and recent graduates, pre-professional and self-directed artists who need time and space to develop a body of work while exploring individual style and technique
-
individuals who work independently, conduct themselves in a professional manner and are comfortable working in a cooperative studio environment
important details
-
the residency will take place from July to August
-
the studios will be accessible 24 hours a day
-
residents are expected to keep their spaces and the studio tidy, as well as treat the facilities and equipment respectfully
-
there will be a group exhibition of Residents’ work held in the VESSEL Gallery in early September
-
the deadline for all application forms is Friday, April 30, 2010 at 4pm
cost
-
$275 for the summer (July and August)
-
$50 damage deposit which will be returned upon the completion of the residency

Completed and signed application form including $20 non-refundable application fee,

One page Letter of Intent describing your proposed project and what facilities you plan to use,

Résumé (2 pages maximum),
-
CD containing 10 (no more) images of current work in jpeg format (PC compatible files) plus an accompanying reference sheet with printed versions of the images and a description of materials, processes, size title and date,
-
2 letters of reference.
Only successful applicants will be contacted for an interview.
