About Courses and Workshops at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design

Located in the Pier 21/Seawall Development area of Halifax, the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design has five well-equipped studios in pottery, jewellery and metal, woodworking, textiles, and multi-purpose where courses are offered to the public in fall, winter and spring semesters. We have courses available for ALL skill levels.

Call for Teaching Proposals:

NSCCD Winter 2011 Courses and Workshops

(Deadline: September 17th)

The NSCCD invites professional artists to submit teaching proposals for courses or workshops in wood, glass, ceramic, metal, and fibre for our Winter 2011 term. The Winter 2011 term will run from January 17th to March 27th. We look forward to expanding our craft mandate and therefore also invite proposals in other mediums or combinations of mixed media.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are re-submitting a previously taught course then you can just submit your preferred dates and times and we will do our best to accommodate you. New images are always appreciated. We would also be happy to put links to your website on our “Instructor Bio” page.

FOR NEW COURSES:

Your proposal package should include the following information:

1. DESCRIPTION of the proposed course or workshop as you would like it to appear on the course brochure.

  • Please include preferred dates, times and duration of the course.
  • Maximum number of students in the class.
  • Materials list or materials cost for students.

2. COURSE OUTLINE, including brief descriptions of what is to be covered in each week’s class.

3. Current C.V. as it relates to your art practice.

4. Your BIO to appear on the NSCCD web page (MAX 150 words).

5. DIGITAL IMAGE of recent work to appear on the NSCCD web page and course brochure.

 

Your hourly instructor fee will be determined based on your teaching experience, your education and your experience as a practicing craft artist.

Open Studio Rentals

 

Open Studio Rentals are an opportunity for people who
have experience and are capable of working
independently. For first time users, references of
technical ability and training for metal and pottery must
be submitted prior to rental period. There will be a
technician available for questions.


Ceramics/Metal/Glass Studio:
Beginning Saturday, October 2nd, 2010, our Ceramics, Metal and Glass studios are available for rent on a first-come
first-served basis on.


Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm
Cost:

for students enrolled in a class at NSCCD
$21.74 + $3.26 (HST) = $25
not registered in a class
$26.09 + $3.91 (HST) = $30

 

We reserve the right to restrict access to the studios if
the staff assess a safety or security risk
